Our group tours (Minimum 4 people)

1. The battle of Arnhem/Oosterbeek
- 1 day 9.00-5.30pm

This group tour includes a comprehensive tour of the main sites of the Battle of Arnhem, including visits to the Landing & Drop zones, the Arnhem road bridge, the Oosterbeek Perimeter, The CWGC and the area of the river crossings. We examine and discuss what went wrong (and right) and (attempt) to give an impression of what it would have been like. Lunch is at a historic site. This is our main Arnhem group tour and we advise doing this tour before tour 3.

2. Operation Market Garden
– 1 day 8.45-6.00pm
This group tour starts in Belgium at looks at both the advance of XXX corps and the main actions of the United States 101st and 82 airborne divisions. We examine the issues and follow the advance up to Nijmegen, which was the crux of the entire market Garden operation. Sites visited include’s Joe’s Bridge, Valkenswaard, Son Bridge, The 101 DZ and the Grave Bridge and DZ’s. Lunch is taken in a traditional Dutch café after which we visit the Groesbeek Heights, The Liberation museum and look in some detail at the battle to capture the Nijmegen road bridge.

3. Arnhem - The 4th Parachute Brigade story
– 1 day 9.00-5.00

This group tour takes a detailed look at the 4th Parachute Brigades battle of Arnhem. We start at the Ginkelse Heide and cover the initial advance to the Dreijenseweg. We look at the battle to take the high ground and the subsequent retreat via Wolfheze and the battle in the woods including ‘Hacket’s hollow.’ We examine the northern tip of the Oosterbeek perimeter around the so called White house and finish the tour in Driel for the retreat across the river. There is no overlap with tour 1.

4. Arnhem - The Polish story
- 1 day 9.00-5.00pm
In this group tour we concentrate fully on the Polish involvement at the battle of Arnhem. Visits include LZ / DZ's, the CWGC at Oosterbeek, the Hartenstein museum, the Oosterbeek perimeter and Driel. A Polish translator is available on request.

5. The dash for Driel
- Short group tour of 2-5 hours

We trace the route taken by 30 Corps from Nijmegen to Driel for the link up with the British and Polish airborne forces. We examine the problems encountered and events that happened.



6. SOE in the Netherlands 1942-44 ‘The Englandspiel’
- 1 day 9.00-5.00pm

This is a specialized group tour in which we examine the so called ‘Englandspiel’ which destroyed SOE’s operations in the Netherlands between 1942-44. Visiting some of the key places as references we piece together this story of betrayal, incompetence and heroism

*Your tour guide is the author of Errors of Judgment – SOE’s disaster in the Netherlands 1942-44. (Hale 1988) The first account of this disaster to appear in English.

7. The battle for the Rhine Crossing - Operations Veritable, Plunder. Varsity
- 1 day 9.00-5.00pm

This group tour covers the British/Canadian advance from Feb 8 – March 25 1945. In the morning we follow the advance via Kleve and Goch to the Rhine. After a traditional German lunch we examine the Rhine crossings and the 6th airborne divisions landings near Haminkiln.

8. D Day Normandy Sword Beach
– 1 day. 9.00-5.00pm

This group tour examines in depth what happened on the most strategically important beach on D-Day and why the British were unable to capture Caen as planned. Starting with Pegasus bridge, we cover the landing beaches, the Hilman bunker complex and the advance to Lebisey wood.

9. Normandy – The Battle inland
(Operation Epsom) – Normandy
– 1 day 9.00-4.00pm
This group tour examines Operation Epsom (June 26 – 30 1944) and the advance inland in Normandy. We follow the British advance made from and examine the problems of fighting in this terrain.

Both Normandy tours can be combined in a long weekend.

10. Dunkirk – 1 day
This tour provides an overview of the critical events of Late May/early June 1940 when in all probability Hitler came closest to winning the war. Our tour considers the dilemma faced by Lord Gort, the French command and the Politicians in London - the subsequent retreat to the coast and the evacuation from the beaches and the Mole in Dunkirk.

We visit the key sites and tell this dramatic story in a logical way. Lunch is taken at the beach. This tour allows for a fascinating weekend away.
